Many of you have brand new laptop computers. These days, they are largely more popular than desktop computers due to their mobility, light weight, long battery, and internet download options.
If you’re a part of the Apple world, then you most likely use or have used a Macbook, Macbook Pro, or Macbook Air in your life. The world loves portable devices and computing.
Well, we’ve written a lot about downloading apps for your Mac desktop computer, but what about all the laptops out there? Can we use Kik for Macbook Pro and Macbook Air just like we use Kik for Mac and PC? I’ll show you the answer here.
Many people around the world are starting to convert to laptops instead of desktop computers. Although the beautiful screens and heavy duty power you get from a desktop Mac is appealing, many people opt for the portability of a sleek Macbook instead. Now, Macbooks are not slouches. You still get a lot of power and a lot of great support in case something unfortunate happens.
You get a lot of the same great capabilities from a Macbook as you would get in a Mac. What I mean here is that they can do some of the same things. In some of these things, a Macbook might be better, and it might suit your productive lifestyle better. That’s why we have this article just for you.
I have all of the Apple products. Everything I’ve ever written, I’ve written on a Mac. My first computer, my roommates and I chipped in, and we got that first Macintosh – 128K. It had as much memory as a greeting card that plays music.- Aaron Sorkin
Why Use Kik for Macbook Pro?
When I speak about why one would use Kik for Macbook Pro and other Macbooks, I’m not just talking about Kik. The tips I offer shortly will work with just about any app. All you need is a good internet connection and your mobile device to download (perhaps it’s an iPhone 6).
Using an app like Kik is awesome. You get to send quick (or long) instant messages to your Kik friends and family. You can share content like photos, files, music, and videos. You can even enjoy the fun of the world’s only messaging app with a built-in browser.
Yep. That means that you can search the web from within the Kik app. No more toggling between screens, or closing one app to copy and paste a URL or something. It’s all within Kik. That’s what makes it one of the coolest apps of it’s kind.
However, Kik was made “officially” for mobile devices like your iPhone or iPod Touch. It’s for people who want to chat on the go. Well, shouldn’t that include people who want to use Kik on the Macbook laptops?
It would be great to be able to use Kik when or phone signal is down, or phone battery is dead, right? Kik is too awesome to just confine to the iPhone. Even though there is no official “online”option or desktop app to use Kik for Macbook Pro, you are still in luck. Now, I will show you how to download and use it.
How to Download Kik for Macbook Pro
Since you want to download Kik for Macbook Pro and other Macbooks, follow these steps and you’ll be in great shape. You’ll need to:
- Download and install an Android emulator. You can read about Manymo for a more detailed guide to Android emulators. They’re free and legal. It’s what app developers use to test their apps on a variety of screens.
- The best one out now, for Kik, might be BlueStacks App Player. Another awesome one for Macbooks is called Manymo which you can run online without downloading any new software. Also, just because it’s an “Android” emulator doesn’t mean your awesome iPhone 6, 5, or 4 won’t work. It is definitely compatible.
- Open and run the emulator on your Macbook Pro. Some type of menu should come up, depending on which emulator you’re using.
- Search for the Kik app within the emulator.
- Select and launch Kik Messenger, and voila! You now can run Kik for Macbook Pro. Same process works for Kik for Macbook Air.
At this point after you download and install the app, you’ll need to, of course, sign in with your Kik credentials. Then you can begin using Kik just like you do on your mobile device. The only difference is that you won’t be able to use the touch screen capabilities.
You’ll need to use your Macbook keyboard and trackpad for all the commands. What the emulator does is not make a computer version of the app, but essentially emulates the app on your Macbook screen. It’s the exact same thing as you would have on your phone. No learning curve necessary.
The Future of Kik for Macbook Pro
With the arrival of iOS 8, there may be some big changes for Kik messenger and all apps. For one, there is the Touch ID technology that Apple may be opening up to app developers. That means you may be able to login to Kik with a fingerprint at some point. Also, there is the “Continuity” and “Handoff” technology which allows iOS 8 users to copy their work, messages, etc. over to another iOS 8 or later device with seamless efficiency. That means that perhaps, this technology can be used to run and use Kik for Macbook and Macs as a whole more easily without using any type of emulators. We’ll have to wait and see though.
