The topic of this article may not be a pleasant one but it certainly is a necessary one that people who use Kik Messenger application need to be aware of. We are talking about the Kik Messenger Lag code. If you were unfortunate enough to receive a Kik with a lag code in it, you could be in a lot of trouble.
What is a Lag Code?
Lag can occur when your device has too many apps running, an outdated version of the app, connection issues such as weak internet connection, or when watching videos on Kik but if the smart phone or mobile device that you are using for the Kik Messenger app freezes up for no apparent reason, it would mean that you have most probably received a Kik lag code, crash card, or lag bomb.
What a lag code does is to send either links or specific commands to a computer. If you receive a lag code on your smart phone or any other mobile device such as IOS and Android Device, your device will not know how to respond to the commands or links that it will be receiving, causing it to malfunction.
So, how are lag codes sent and how would you know if you are on the receiving end of one? Believe it or not, there are people out there who do not have anything better to do than to create unnecessary trouble for other people; even if the do not know those other people from a hole in the ground.
Unfortunately, some of those people may take on Kik Messenger application and use it for their nefarious purposes. The good news is that there are millions of people who use the Kik Messenger app around the world everyday. It is safe to say that the overwhelming majority of those who use Kik Messenger would not belong to the teensy minority of those who are only out there trying to get you. So, it is very unlikely that you would ever receive a lag code through the Kik Messenger app. All the same, information is power and it will not hurt you to know what lag codes are and what you will need to do in case you find yourself in the unfortunate receiving end. Our guess is that for most people who use (i.e., send out lag codes on the Kik Messenger app or other apps), this action is nothing more than a prank. The problem is that people on the receiving end may not see the humor in this at all!
It is also a good idea to know about lag codes as people who send them out do not only use the Kik Messenger app but they also try to target people in any other way they possibly can. Notoriously, lag codes are a well-known problem in the online gamer community. In this article, however, we will stick to lag codes sent via the Kik Messenger app.
All another user needs to send you a lag bomb or a lag code is access to your smart phone or mobile device. Kik Messenger is, unfortunately, a great way for them to have access to your smart phone or mobile device. All they would need to do is to send you a lag code or a lag bomb as an instant message, using the Kik Messenger app.
This brings us to the second part of our original question: how would you know if you are on the receiving end of a lag code?
As soon as your Kik Messenger app received a lag code, it will try to make any sense it can out of it. So, you might not notice anything straight off the bat, as it were. A short while later though, the lag code will start having an affect on whichever smart phone or mobile device you would be using the Kik Messenger app on. You will start to notice that everything will start to slow right down or, if you prefer, to lag (hence, the term lag code or lag bomb). In the worst-case scenario your app will totally freeze. By this we mean that you will not be able to use the Kik Messenger app (in this case, if you get a lag code or lag bomb on another app, then this will affect that specific app and not Kik Messenger). If this were not enough, there could be a bigger problem, as some lag codes would also affect other different functions on your smart phone or mobile device.
So, you can see how receiving a lag code could be incredibly annoying. Particularly, if apart from chatting to the “friend” (we use the term extremely loosely because what can of friend would do something like that?), you are also chatting to other people on the Kik Messenger app. If Kik Messenger freezes up completely, you will not be able to continue messaging them for a while. The good news is that all you will need to do is to reboot your mobile device (We know this could be annoying but at least there is a solution), and perhaps used an alternative mobile device to keep chatting.
Now, the problem arises when the fact that you may have been chatted to several people at the same time reduces your chances of finding out who sent you the lag code unless they ‘fess up.
Who Do You Need To Do if You Receive a Lag Code?
“I’m somebody who likes codes and ciphers and chases and artwork and architecture, and all the things you find in a Robert Langdon thriller.”- Dan Brown
Unfortunately, there is not a whole lot you can do for preventing other Kik Messenger users from sending you lag codes. All we can tell you is how you could react to it.
So, if after receiving a text message on Kik Messenger application, your app starts to lag or just freezes up, you can just restart it and it should work just fine once again. If you know who sent you the lag code, you should be able to talk to them once you go back into the app after reboot (and we really recommend you do this, particularly if you did not find their “prank” at all funny).
How you talk to them or even whether you decide to continue being “friends” with them and to chat again with them, is entirely up to you. Just remember that Kik Messenger allows you to block other users you would rather not chat to. Depending on the type of relationship between you to, how long you have been chatting for, and whether you find this kind of joke or prank funny or it is just annoys the fudge out of you, you should consider blocking them. You may want to talk to them first to avoid any further misunderstanding (for example, if you think they may have thought you would have found it funny that they sent you a lag code).
If you do decide to block them whether as soon as you have restarted the Kik Messenger app or after you have had a chat to them about it, there are only a few easy steps you need to take. Remember that a blocked Kik Messenger user will never be able to contact you again on the app and, therefore, they will not be able to play any other questionable pranks such as sending you a lag code ever again.
If you make that decision here are the simple steps you will need to follow:
- Grab your smart phone or mobile device.
- Head over to the Kik Messenger app.
- Go to the main chats list.
- Search for the username of the user you wish to block.
- Tap on their user name and hold down until the menu displays.
- From all the available section, choose the one labeled as “chat info”.
- This will take you to a different screen. Once you are there just select the icon located in the top corner of your screen.
- There will be a new menu displaying now. From all the available options, select the one labeled as “Block [username]”.
- After you have done that, a confirmation screen will display so you can be sure that you are blocking the right user. If that is the case, just tap on “block”. If you changed your mind or have selected the wrong user, just come out of there and start over if necessary.
Blocking someone is as easy and that, and it is the only way to ensure that they will leave you alone and will never send you a lag code again.
Now that you know what a lag code is, how to identify one, and what to do if you receive one, there will be no need for you to panic is this happens to you. Sure, it will be annoying but understanding what it is and what to do, we hope, will make any such situation a lot more palatable and easier to manage.
The main thing to remember is that a lag code is not more than a temporary inconvenience that can be dealt with quickly and easily as long as you know what you need to do. It is unlikely you will ever even get one but this should not be taken as an excuse not to be prepared were this ever to happen to you.
