Learn How To Change Your Kik Username

Every once in a while you want to start new and it’s frustrating when you can’t figure out how to change your Kik username even though you chose the initial one to start.

Never worry, I have a solution below that will let you change it to whatever you desire. First, I want to go into a bit more detail about choosing a Kik username and what you should think about before creating a new one. Hopefully the second one will stick a bit better than the first.

If you want to change your name because someone is bullying, threatening, or asking you to do something you don’t feel comfortable with please block the person immediately, report them as spam and tell someone or the authorities.

Kik Username Tips

In an effort to save you time and annoyance in the future, here are some tips that you can follow when thinking of your new username.

• Be sure your Kik username is unique as you won’t be able to have the same one that’s already been registered.
• Try to come up with a name that uses both letters and numbers and is long enough so that it’s hard to guess. For instance, if you have a username of HaleyJ that is easy to guess and gives hints to anyone what your real name is. Try to pick something that includes letters and numbers and try not to use your real name if you want to make it harder for people to find you.
• Make the name unique to yourself, try to use your favorite sports team, band, hobby, role model, etc. That makes it so other people can get a sense of who you are.
• If you’re creating a new username to protect your privacy or to distance yourself from someone else, make sure your new name is substantially different from the old one so they can’t guess it. Also, go ahead and block them immediately when you get your new name so they won’t be able to message you at all.

Change Your Kik Username

Unfortunately, Kik Messenger does not allow users to change their username. Likely the reason is because Kik want’s a good measure of how many users they have based on the number of usernames taken and they don’t want to “clutter” their servers with a bunch of unused ones. Makes sense, but it also is annoying if you really need to change it for some reason.

TIP: There is a difference between your username and your display name. You can change your display name, which is whatever you want it to be, from your real name to a fake, silly, creative, funny name. Think of what best represents you and try not to use your real name as that can let people find who you are. You don’t want that if they are creepy or not your type.

Now, let’s get into the step by step guide on changing your Kik username.

1. First, you will want to look through everyone you’ve messaged on Kik and write down their username. If they are already in your phone’s contact list then you don’t need to write it down as your new account will bring them in automatically.
2. You need to now deactivate your account. You can do this by opening the Kik app and going to Settings then tapping Your Account and choosing Reset Kik Messenger. You will then get an email verification where you have to click the link to actually delete your account. You can also go to the Kik deactivation page.
3. Now, you’ll want to start fresh with a new username. Open the app and tap on the create new account button. You can now choose your new username. Be sure to think through to make sure you actually like the new one and check to see if it’s been taken.
4. When you sign up for your new account you will need to provide your email address. If you use the same one as before, then Kik may say you already have an account. Try it with the email you used before. If that doesn’t work, there are a couple options. One option, is if you’re using a Gmail email address you can add a “.” anywhere in the email and it will send it to your email. For instance if Jim Smith had an email of jimsmith {at} gmail.com then you could use jim.smith {at} gmail.com and it would be the same thing. The other option is to create a new email account just for the app.

It’s a lot harder to come by another cell phone number than it is to delete your old account and create a new one.
