One of the most important things you need to know in order to make the most of an instant-messaging app like Kik Messenger is managing your contacts. It does not much matter whether you only have a handful or hundreds of different contacts.
Most people who you use the Kik Messenger app soon accumulate many different contacts. Even if you start your account with the sole intention of chatting with your closest friends, you are likely to find yourself receive chat requests from other users almost as soon as you first log into your account.
After all, the Kik Messenger app is one of the most popular apps of its kind in the United States, the United Kingdom, and around the world.
It is just too easy to connect and make new friends on the Kik Messenger app. What with group chats, Kik parties, etc. you would find your contact list grows the more you use the application.
But even if you do not engage in group chats or join any parties, it is extremely likely that you will find your contact list grow almost daily.
Use the Address Match Feature
Did you know that the Kik Messenger app has a feature called address match? The only way to ensure that you are making the most out of Kik Messenger is to become familiarized with all its different features.
Then, it will be up to you which ones you decide to use and which others you do not think will enhance your very own personal user experience. But, if you do not know what those features are, how can you decide whether or not they could make using the Kik Messenger app even better or not?
The address match feature is something that many Kik users are not even aware it exists. The reason for this is that it only tends to come up when you first register with Kik and, at that point, would be users may not know enough to turn it on or not.
When you first register on Kik Messenger, you are asked whether you would like to sync your phone contacts to Kik. If you do, you would be using the address match feature.
But what is this feature and why should you consider using it?
As you know, Kik Messenger does not share the personal information of their users with other users. Unlike, its competitors Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, you do not need to give anybody your social media profile or your telephone number in order to send and receive instant messages.
All that other users will need to know about you is your unique username. If you want people to add you to their friends list all you have to do is give them is your username or, even better, share your Kik code.
Friends can help each other. A true friend is someone who lets you have total freedom to be yourself – and especially to feel. Or, not feel. Whatever you happen to be feeling at the moment is fine with them. That’s what real love amounts to – letting a person be what he really is. – Jim Morrison
But if you want to be able to chat with your existing friends, enabling the address match feature could be your best move. Why? Because, if you do so Kik Messenger will search your contacts for the email addresses of other Kik Messenger users.
Kik Messenger will then automatically add any Kik users it finds in your contacts to your friends list. But it will only add those who have themselves enabled the feature. And you will be automatically added to their friends lists, too.
The important thing to remember is that you can only be added to other users’ friends list if you have enabled the feature.
Another important thing to bear in mind is that everyone is added by their usernames and not by their email addresses. So, you might not necessarily make the connection between the people in your contact list and your Kik friends list.
That is why you will not be able to add anybody manually to your Kik friends list using their email address. You will need to know their username or scan your Kik code. But if you enable the address book feature (and they have enabled it too), Kik will do all the hard work for you and add them automatically.
But, I did not enable the address match feature when I first registered on Kik Messenger? No problem, you can always enable the address match feature any time you want to by simply heading to the Kik Messenger settings.
Also, you can disable it if you do not want to be added automatically to other users’ friends list anytime. If you disable the feature, then any new members who register to Kik Messenger for the first time or any existing members that enable the feature on their phones will not be added automatically to your friends list and you will not be added to theirs.
Bear in mind, however, that you will remain on the friends lists of those contacts you had already be added to (and they will remain in yours). Disabling the address match feature does not remove anybody from friends lists.
The default setting is disabled unless, of course, you enabled the feature when you first registered with the app. So, if you are not quite sure if you have enabled it and would like to check your status, just head over to your settings. You are free to enable and disable this feature as many times and as often as you deem necessary.
Kik Codes
Another way to make sure that your profile can be added to people’s friends lists is to share your Kik code. Your Kik code is a unique QR code that allows other Kik users to add you to their friends list simply by scanning it.
Because usernames can be quite complex and there are so many of them out there that are really similar, user Kik codes is a great way to be added by your friends (and, of course, adding them to your own friends list).
It is up to you how you manage your Kik code. Some people choose to link their Kik code to their social media profiles (Twitter, Tumblr, etc.) but you do not need to do this necessarily.
